Tame Your Visitors, And Be Tamed By Them.
To me, you are still nothing more than a little blog who is just like a hundred thousand other little blogs.
And I have no need of you.
And you, on your part, have no need of me.
To you I am nothing more than a visitor like a hundred thousand other visitors.
But if you tame me, then we shall need each other.
To me, you will be unique in all the world.
To you, I shall be unique in all the world. . .
That’s what the Visitor told the Blog. Or what the Fox told the Little Prince?
Today, both Daniel and Darren wrote grat posts about “charming” visitors … and they made me think of the Fox and the Little Prince.
What about taming your visitors and be tamed by them? It’s a different point of view from creating relationships or giving your reader the appreciation they deserves.
It’s trying to fall in love with each one of your visitors.
Can this be too much?

What do bloggers have to change in their minds to be tamed by their readers?

You can make a blog with discussions, relationships and communication in mind. In this kind of blog, it would be as natural to tame-and-be-tamed by your visitors as it is natural to tame-and-be-tamed by your friends, your colleagues, your family (or your fox).
You can also make a blog in which the blogger talks to the readers and nothing more. In such a blog, visitors can be mere numbers and do not participate to a discussion. The blogger may improve his contents and layouts in order to get more visitors, but will not really be tamed by them ..

well… I fear that there are cases where a blogger has the first approach, and really tries to create discussions and promote communication, but he somehow put himself emotionally far from his readers… making not possible to be tamed by them.
I don’t even know if this is a bad thing to do… keeping some “professional distance” can be the right thing to do… but it seems to me that distance beteween the blogger and the readers should be keep as small as possible, and this can be achieved only if the bloggers move towards the readers… and this is something that happens less frequently in this days.

In my experience so far, I’ve learned to communicate more and more with my visitors. I do not let automated systems deal with that. For example, at a certain site which I own, I ‘personally’ mail all the new visitors with a fresh new content in it, personally and manually written, explaining new updates that the site has, features, what he can do and where and that I promptly reply if (s)he has questions. Also, having on each page directions to answers in case (s)he stumbles up on a certain area. And I offer free promotions and prizes over and over, I offer more than I get, honestly, but it doesn’t match to the great satisfaction I get back from happy returning visitors. Another would be ‘more friendly talk’ rather than strict and too overreacted professional talk. I am not selling, therefore, I have no reason to act like it :)

I personally think it can be a little too much. I mean, if you have limited time already you’re going to struggle finding the time to be that personal with so many people.

The cage is best sited where other animals will not bother the chinchilla; away from draughts, as these are not good for them; not directly in front of a radiator; and not in direct sunlight where they may be at risk from heat exhaustion. A good spot is against the wall, or in the corner of the room where the chinchilla will feel less exposed.

The future of blogging is allowing its visitors to publish (share) content, not just comments.
