Bonus Search Tip: Finding mp3 files with Google
As an example of how powerful can be google when used with my ultimate google guide, here’s a little search query that allow you to find easily tons of mp3
-inurl:(php|htm|html|asp) + “index of” +(mp3|ogg|wma) +mozart
obviously you can change “mozart” with everything you want :)

is it easy to be caught if you download and save a copyrighted file from a directory?

It can be done, but I don’t think that risks are so different from using a P2P sw.
They have to request the logs from the server and ask your provider who was using that ip that day… but they need a real reason to do this…
Obviously, you should not download copyrighted material. ;)
